We have great news for customers of RPU in Riverside County: You can now receive a rebate for installing a solar panel system!

The incentive amount is $0.50 per watt AC, and there is no cap on rebate amounts for residential systems. But the program’s funds are limited, so in order to claim your solar rebate, you must get started right away. Solar rebates are available for systems installed after July 1, 2015.

Make the Call

To start the process, call 951.826.5311 and ask for “Solar Reservations” to make an appointment. Appointments will continue to be scheduled until solar rebate program funds are depleted.

Prepare Your Solar Rebate Application

Once you’ve secured an appointment, it’s time to complete your application. As GreenRiverside.com notes, incomplete applications will not be processed, so be sure to have all your paperwork in order prior to your appointment.

Bring printed copies of the following documents to your appointment:

  • Completed solar rebate application
  • Signed contract for your photovoltaic (PV) system or dated sales receipt with system size noted in AC watts
  • Completed and signed Net Energy Metering Interconnection Form
  • Completed Surplus Energy Compensation Election Form
  • Completed Home Energy Profile from RPU

You can download copies of the solar rebate application, the Net Energy Metering Interconnection Form, and the Surplus Energy Compensation Election Form from the Green Riverside website. There, you’ll also find a link to the RPU Home Energy Profile—you’ll need to register for an account in order to sign in and complete your profile.

Pull Your Building Permit

Once you complete your solar reservation appointment and your solar rebate application packet has been approved, you’ll be issued a letter to confirm your PV system reservation. Reservations are valid for 120 days, and you must obtain a building permit from the Riverside Building & Safety Department during that timeframe.

Start Your Solar Project

After receiving your building permit, you’ll have 12 months to complete your solar panel installation. Remember, solar rebates are only available to customers who are purchasing a solar panel system. Leased systems and power purchase agreements are not eligible for solar rebates.

Your professional solar contractor can assist you in applying for a permit. And your contractor should also take responsibility for following RPU’s interconnection standards when designing your system and following Riverside’s PV permitting guidelines when building your system.

Schedule Your Final Inspection

Once your system has been permitted and built, you must schedule a final inspection with Riverside’s Building & Safety Department by calling 951.826.5967. You will receive your solar rebate approximately 12 to 18 weeks after your final inspection has been completed.
